Jewels belonging to the reclusive heiress Huguette Clark, who died in 2011 at age 105, sold for $21 million on Tuesday.
A record price was set for a pink diamond sold in the U.S. when a cushion-cut fancy vivid purplish pink diamond ring of 9.00 cts by Dreicer & Co., circa 1910, fetched $15,762,500 at Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction.
The buyer of "The Clark Pink" was Brett Stettner of Stettner Investment Diamonds, according to Christie's. A pre-sale estimate of $6 million was more than doubled.
"The entire collection, which has fascinated collectors and press worldwide, achieved a total of $20.8 million against a presale estimate of $9 million," said Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry, Christie’s Americas.
"This is the second most valuable private collection sold in the United States in the last decade, just behind the legendary jewels of Elizabeth Taylor," according to Kadakia.
