It is going on six months since the sudden shuttering of New York's Knoedler Gallery, yet the scandal surrounding it continues to loom large, dragging other galleries into the miasma.

 A venerable American art institution for 165 years, the Knoedler Gallery’s once impeccable reputation is left with the lingering stain of the forgery scandal which broke shortly prior to its decision to close its doors.

Michael Shnayerson, contributing editor to Vanity Fair, ponders whether or not the gallery, and its former president, will ever be free of the dark cloud that was the “David Herbert Collection,” and recounts the history of the imbroglio.
