Nearly $10 million was spent to acquire George Washington's copy of the Constitution, complete with his handwritten notes on Presidential duties, for display at the Founding Father's Mount Vernon estate.
Over the summer, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association bought the copy at auction for $9.8 million from the collection of the late collector H. Richard Dietrich Jr.
Last on the market in 1964, Dietrich bought the copy then for $64,000. It had descended in the Washington family until 1876.
