Best-known for his grand Trinity Church in Boston, leading 19th-century architect Henry Hobson Richardson's only major surviving work in Washington, DC, is coming to auction, piece by piece.
Parts of a turreted townhome from 1888, once owned and displayed by the Smithsonian, will go to auction November 10 and 11, at Sloans and Kenyon in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
An arched doorway is said to weigh 31 tons. Each piece has a five-figure estimate in the sale.
