Skinner to Auction Textiles from Met Museum Collection

Skinner will offer textiles once belonging to The Metropolitan Museum of Art on March 13 in its Marlborough, Mass., gallery. From delicate Brussels lace to a bold Sonia Delauney shawl, the collection runs the spectrum of fine textiles and is estimated within an affordable price bracket for new collectors.
The collection features printed, embroidered, and woven garments from the 18th through 20th centuries, including shawls, scarves, head coverings, wraps, and veils from cultures and regions around the world.
Among the highlights is an early embroidered silk apron/panel, probably 18th century, America (Lot 590,) with an estimate of $300-$500. Exquisite Brussels lace, c. 1850-1925 (Lot 569) is estimated at $600-$800.
Fashion lovers may fall for a multicolored Sonia Delaunay-Terk shawl entitled 'A Damiers,' France, c. 1977 (Lot 556, Estimate $600-$800) and an Yves Saint Laurent 'Mondrian' Scarf, France, c. 1990s (Lot 553, Estimate $200-$300).
