Romanian defendants Radu Dogaru, Alexandru Bitu and Eugen Darie pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the theft of seven paintings from the Kunsthal Museum last fall. They stole works by the likes of Picasso, Monet and Matisse, from the Dutch museum in a swift nighttime attack.
A Bucharest court charged them with the theft of the multimillion-dollar paintings and with bringing the paintings to Ronania.
The artworks have not been recovered. Dogaru’s mother, Olga, who is charged with handling stolen property, told investigators that she burned the paintings, but later retracted her statement.
