Merchandise Mart Cancels Chicago Antiques Fair

The Merchandise Mart's Chicago International Antques and Fine Art Fair has been retired after 16 years and a new antiques show has made plans to occupy Chicago's Navy Pier the same weekend of the Mart's annual event.
Palm Beach, Fla.-based Palm Beach Show Group made overtures to buy the existing Merchandise Mart show, but their offer was refused.
Now the Palm Beach group has planned its Chicago International Art, Antique and Jewelry Show on April 24-28 at Navy Pier, taking over the Mart show, in its 16th year, for those dates and venue. Dealers who traditionally exhibited at the Mart have gone with the Florida group and Laurette Lutiger, head of sales for the Mart's antiques fair, is now show director for the Palm Beach group.
