A missing Norman Rockwell painting valued at about $1 million was found in Ohio by a private investigator. The 22-by-28 canvas oil painting titled "Sport" disappeared from a storage facility in New York sometime after it was purchased at a Sotheby's auction in May 2013.
Authorities say the painting was discovered missing from Welpak Art Moving and Storage facility in Queens on Sept 13. The work was about to be shipped to its unnamed new owner.
Welpak Corp. said in a release that its private investigator, Dean Golemis, worked in association with the NYPD to track down the painting. No one has been charged in the Rockwell's disappearance.
One of America's most recognizable artists, Rockwell created "Sport," depicting a fisherman in a yellow raincoat sitting in a rowboat, as a Saturday Evening Post cover in 1939.
