Case of Stolen Gustav Klimt Painting Reopened

Advances in DNA testing will allow police to reopen the case of a Gustav Klimt painting stolen more than 17 years ago in Italy.
Klimt's Portrait of a Woman was stolen from the Ricci-Oddi gallery in Piacenza in February 1997. A fingerprint was left on the frame and police investigators are using new technology to test the DNA of suspects.
The highly recognizable work by Klimt, a leader of the Viennese Secession, would make it impossible to sell on the open market. The work disappeared without a trace. Investigators hope that the fingerprint will lead to an arrest and the return of the artwork.
