The New York City start-up Artsy.net aims to be the Pandora of the art world, connecting collectors with the art they seek and suggesting new artists based on their preferences.

High-profile backers have been behind Artsy and its young CEO Carter Cleveland, from the get-go, including Peter Thiel, Wendi Deng, editor Dasha Zhukova, art dealer Larry Gagosian, and Earthlink founder Sky Dayton.

Adding to Artsy's Series B funding this week were Rich Barton, the Rockefeller family, IDG Capital Partners and China-based ZhenFund, for a total of $18.5 million.

Artsy has accumulated artworks from 1,800 galleries, 230 institutional partners and 25 art fairs, to date. There are more than 125,000 works by over 25,000 artists to browse.
