Analysis of Picasso Masterpiece Reveals Hidden Painting

A scientific analysis of Pablo Picasso's "The Blue Room," considered the first masterpiece of his Blue Period, has revealed that another work was painted over by the modern master. The revelation is a portrait of a bearded and bow-tied man, head on hand, which begs the question: who is he?
Conservators at the Phillips Collection used advanced infrared technology to find the potrait. Experts may collaborate to use multi-spectral imaging technology and x-ray fluorescence intensity mapping to try to identify and map the colors of the hidden painting. The effort could show the original colors Picasso intended, and more insight into who the sitter was.
The Blue Room, now traveling in South Korea, will be the centerpiece of a 2017 exhibition on Picasso at the museum.
