Designer Uses 3D Printing to Bring Objects Closer to Museum Visitors

Maaike Roozenburg is using her 3D printing knowledge to help connect museum-goers with collection objects that are behind glass and out of reach.
3Dprint.com explains how Roozenburg creates replicas of precious objects and then adds a layer of augmented reality information. She calls these new creations “smart replicas.” The information contained in these objects can then be accessed via smartphone or tablet, providing visitors with a better understand of each piece.
Roozenburg collaborated with assistant professor in computer aided engineering at TU Delf, Jouke Verlinden, to develop a system for scanning and modeling collection objects.
