Artist Will Make Covent Garden Appear to Float this Fall

Popular marketplace Covent Garden in the heart of London is set to levitate this fall. Starting Oct. 2, artist Alex Chinneck, known for his large scale installations that create optical illusions, will make the 40-foot facade of the Market Building appear to float ten feet in the air.
It took some 50 artisans about 3 months to create the sculptural installation which mimics the architecture of the actual Market Building..
Chinneck says his goal was to create "an accessible artwork that makes a harmonious but breath-taking contribution to its historic surroundings, leaving a lasting and positive impression upon the cultural landscape of Covent Garden and in the minds of its many visitors".
