Film Art Dominates 2014 Turner Prize

Traditional painting and sculpture are not seen at this year's Turner Prize exhibition of under-50 British art talents. Audio, video, craft and design comprise the selections, and are woven together, with projected imagery taking center stage.
The shortlist of artists that went on view Monday at the Tate Britain include Duncan Campbell, Ciara Phillips, James Richards and Tris Vonna-Michell; three graduated from the Glasgow School of Art and some of their work has already been shown internationally, from Lyon to Venice.
A moving image theme may reflect a more transient society. Said Tate Britain director Penelope Curtis, who chairs the jury: "This reflects the mobility of art today, while the prominence of film, performance, and participation reveals an interest in work that adapts according to changing surroundings."
A winner will be announced Dec. 1 for the £25,000 prize.
