Museum Seeks Art Covering Destroyed Ferguson Storefronts

When riots ensued over the Nov. 24 grand jury annoncement that there would be no indictment of the officer who killed Michael Brown, many storefronts and businesses in Ferguson, Missouri, and on South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis were damaged. Up went plywood to cover shattered windows. And then came the art.
Artists painted hopeful sayings and bright images across the plywood. Some residents decry the artworks as masking pain, and some think the work should be discarded since it's a reminder of a time that should be forgotten.
Others see a need for preservation. Plans are underway to preserve some of the artwork at the Missouri History Museum and the Regional Art Commission.
