A man swinging meat cleavers at pedestrians outside a Dutch museum was shot and killed by police on Sunday, reports the AFP.

Wielding multiple large knives, the man tried to stab bystanders near the Groninger Museum. Police fired a warning shot and the man fled while trying to stab additional people. He was shot and fell into a canal. Attempts to revive the man failed.

A motive and the identity of the man have not been revealed.
