Familiar favorites along with artwork new to Williams College Museum of Art’s collection provide a panoply of American creativity in an exhibition opening January 31, 2015, in Williamstown, Mass.
Edward Hopper’s powerful 1944 nude Morning in a City, back on view after its international tour, joins a colorful geometric gouache painting by Stuart Davis. Portrait paintings by John Smibert and Thomas Eakins coalesce with sculpture, decorative arts, and beloved works by Maurice Prendergast, according to the WCMA website.
"Three Centuries of American Art" provides a rare opportunity to view the best American works of the WCMA collection together, and includes prime examples by luminaries from Peale to Homer and Inness, and more.
