The proposed Guggenheim Helsinki, with its architectural competition still underway, is drawing more fire from critics who question the New York museum's use of Finland's prized harbor site and its impact, along with the whole idea of a museum franchise.
Zachary Edelson interviews New York-based writer and architect Michael Sorkin about the project, and his own rival competition called The Next Helsinki, on ArchDaily. Questions linger on whether the Finns will subscribe to a so-called "Starbucks museology" and do the locals even want a starchitect-designed money generator like the successful Guggenheim Bilbao, the popular Basque outpost of the New York museum.
