An estimated $60 million in fake Abstract Expressionist works were sold through New York's now-defunct Knoedler gallery, according to the U.S. attorney general. Since the forgery scandal broke in 2011, four out of ten cases have been settled against the gallery and its director, Ann Freedman. Two cases will now head to trial, ruled a federal judge in Manhattan on Sept. 30.
Motions from the gallery and Freedman for summary judgment in the lawsuits were denied by Judge Gardephe. The court will hear cases brought by New York collector John Howard and Sotheby’s chairman Domenico De Sole and his wife, Eleanore.
