NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Fariba Baghi in I Remember You, I Know this Place. The exhibition opens November 10 and runs through December 1, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

The devastation of losing all her paintings and possessions in a house fire had a severe impact on the work of Iranian Canadian artist Fariba Baghi. Her paintings now are lighter and more abstract, although still heavily influenced by her upbringing in Persia; living through the Iranian Islamic revolution and experiencing sudden change and restriction influenced her perspective on freedom, especially for women. She paints ethereal, abstract figures with organic paints that are earthy in tone, exploring the contrast and connection between the human form and the delicate elements of nature. Sometimes, she incorporates cement or photographs into her paintings, adding an otherworldly element to the world she has created.

In search of a more open society, Baghi emigrated to Canada in 2004 where she studied Visual Art at George Brown College. Today she resides in Toronto, working as an artist and teaching painting and drawing to underprivileged children. Many of her paintings have been donated to the labor-of-love film, Phoolan Devi – an Iranian-directed documentary about the life of India’s “Bandit Queen”.
