Last week, the digital platform ArtBinder announced ColorSearch, a new function that allows users to browse art by color preference, replacing the traditional search bar with a visual spectrum.
ColorSearch is available on ArtBinder Viewer, a publicly accessible platform that showcases work from individual artists and elite galleries worldwide. By removing the restrictive search limitations associated with other browsing tools, ColorSearch offers a simpler and more effective way of finding artwork online.
“Most art-browsing tools require users to search by subjective criteria -- such as movement, style, or subject matter -- factors which often change according to how galleries prefer to categorize works,” said Alexandra Chemla, founder and CEO of ArtBinder. “Spectrum-based search solves this problem by focusing on one of the indisputable elements of an artwork, which in this case is color.”
ColorSearch was developed specifically for the art community by ArtBinder’s core team of designers, technologists and art professionals. Using a spectrum of more than 250 hues, users can select any number of colors they are looking for in an artwork, with ArtBinder Viewer returning a ranked listing of works featured on the platform that match the specified color(s). The latest addition to ArtBinder’s growing suite of digital products, ColorSearch reflects ArtBinder’s dedication to digital innovation.
"Our mission is to build smart technology that makes the business of buying, selling and collecting artwork easier,” said Chemla. “We’re excited to see how users interact with ColorSearch, and how we might be able to apply those insights to future product development in this area.”
Initially, ColorSearch will launch on ArtBinder Viewer, with plans to further integrate the capability across the company’s expanding suite of tools.
