Gallery Joseph is situated in the heart of the Marais, between Filles du Calvaire and Saint Sébastien Froissart, the area of art galleries, fashion and design showrooms. At the initiative of a contemporary designer and a passionate patron of the arts, this former industrial workshop located in a Napoleon III building with foundations dating from the 16th century has been completely redesigned.

WANG Zhongqi

WANG Zhongqi ‘s paintings are inspired by the novel "Le Reve dans le Pavillon Rouge - The Dream of Red Chamber", the monument par excellence of classical Chinese literature. CAO Xueqin was able to write this masterpiece 250 years ago. Comparable to the novel, also WANG Zhongqi’s paintings are in encyclopedic style. WANG Zhongqi expresses the different characters, the imperial families, nobles and bureaucrats, but also maids, servants, buddhist monks, covering all classes of China. The scenes of his paintings describe rites, celebrations, condolences, flowers and trees, astrology and the arts.

Born 1958 in Shanghai, WANG Zhongqi studied Fine Arts with focus on Oil Painting at Jiatong University Shanghai. Soon after his works were nominated for an international competition in New York and were exhibited at Chioda Club in Tokyo. In 2002 WANG Zhongqi was engaged to support the Princeton University Art Museum due to his excellent art advisor competence.

WANG Zhongqi has reflected the universe of time in his paintings that combine technical precision with passion and innovation. The symbolism is manifested in the relationship between the outside world, and the microcosm of inner feelings, the micro-society mainly composed with young beautiful women. The painting technique moves between reality and illusion. WANG Zhongqi combines precise details of the style of Gong-bi with freehand style, "literati painting", in the Shui-mo.
