NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Samantha Ortiz in The Latin American Contemporary Fine Art Competition. The exhibition opens December 5 and runs through December 15, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, December 6 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
Samantha Ortiz realizes compositions in different modes. Ranging from still-lifes, to abstraction, to an almost minimalist style of painting, the variety underlying Ortiz’s works is unified by the way she allows canvas to become a visible substrate for her works. Rather than emphasizing the illusiveness of paint on canvas, Ortiz foregrounds the materiality of the media she puts to use.
The ink on canvas work No Title 1 provides an excellent example of her process, where Ortiz intends the viewer to become invested in how a picture is made as opposed to what it depicts.
