The ACND Gallery of Art at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep announces a “Call for Entries” for teaching artists working at elementary/middle schools near Miami’s art districts. Entrants should submit their resume including a cover letter with a link to an online portfolio or website and 3 digital, high-resolution photos of their work with title, dimension, and medium by no later than June 30, 2013 to GalleryofArt@acnd.net. All mediums except film and video will be considered. Artists must be both teaching art and working as a professional artist.
Accepted entries will be on view at the ACND Gallery’s 2nd Annual Teaching Artist Exhibit, “Art Touches Lives” opening reception and artist “meet and greet” on Saturday, September 14th, and on view through October 31, 2013.
The exhibit will jumpstart a year’s worth of festivities celebrating ACND Prep’s 60th Anniversary. “Our first teaching artist exhibit showcased the work of teaching artists within the Archdiocese,” commented Douglas Romanik, ACND Principal. “However, this year we wanted to extend the invitation to artists in our immediate area. ACND has been a part of the changing multicultural and cultural landscape of Miami’s arts districts. It seems only appropriate to highlight this change and celebrate the artists who embrace it.”
Priority consideration will be given to teaching artists who work at schools in areas with zip codes 33137, 33127, 33138, and 33132. All entrants should also include in their submission a two to three sentence statement addressing, “how art touches lives” in a manner that would be understood by middle to high school level students.
“We are committed to educating, through the arts, our youth and educating the people who work and live in our immediate community,” concluded Romanik. “Our recently launched Creative Connections initiative allows us to connect students and the community by creating partnerships with the Wynwood Art and Miami Design Districts through programs such as: Arts for Learning visual arts classes, student workshops and field trips to cultural arts venues, middle school art festival, and professional artist exhibits.”
