Brunk Auctions held their final catalog auction of the calendar year on November 18-19, and continued their track record of bringing exceptional objects to market. The Asheville-based auction house received exceptional prices for vintage jewelry and paintings. Sold over two sessions, the auction consisted of nearly one thousand lots and realized over $1.9 million.

The top lot in the sale was a very fine Cartier Paris Diamond and Citrine Bracelet. The bracelet is 18 kt. gold accented with 70 single-cut diamonds, 10 square step-cut golden citrines, and 40 oval-faceted golden citrines. Created in the 1940s, it was bought by the consignor from Harry Winston in the mid-70s. Competitive bidding in the Asheville gallery and over the phones advanced the final selling price to $144,000.

Brunk Auctions

A rare Van Cleef & Arpels Thai Dancer Brooch sold for $93,600. The brooch is very similar to one sold by Christie’s in 2010 for $30,000. The main difference between the two is that the one recently sold by Brunk Auctions house features sapphires where the one sold by Christie’s features rubies.

Other jewelry that excelled during the auction includes a Platinum 6.26 carat Diamond Ring selling for $52,800, and a 3.16 carat diamond ring and a 2.5 carat emerald cut diamond ring both selling for $21,600 each.

Paintings also piqued the interest of a host of bidders. A Jane Peterson view of a Venetian Canal, the cover lot, sold for $45,600. The gouache, circa 1910, was the top painting in the sale. Other significant results for paintings include a Philip Mercier portrait of Miss Wentworth sold for $33,600 and a Jules Dupre oil on paperboard sold for $19,200.

Brunk Auctions will continue to conduct online-only auctions exclusive to Bidsquare over the remainder of the year and will hold their next catalog auction on the weekend of January 21st. All prices listed include premium.
