NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Fiz Dominguez in Mystery as Muse. The exhibition opens October 13 and runs through November 2, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, October 18 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
In his oil paintings, Madrid born artist Fiz Dominguez blurs the boundaries of abstraction and portraiture. His gestural works leave swaths of canvas raw and exposed, and he captures facial features and bodies using only hints of pigment and minimal lines. Applying paint in thin pools, fluid drips, and thick patches, the artist renders human relationships and everyday moments with tenderness and consideration. His figurative works, rather than portraits of people with distinct identities, capture universal human experiences and allow the viewer to project onto the dreamy, familiar scenes.
In an oil painting titled Next to the Orange Tree Dominguez images a pair of figures who appear to clutch one another in desperation. Perhaps depicting a young mother and her child, the two are portrayed in washy strokes of subtle auburn and green to mimic the cool shade of an orange tree. The Poor Girl depicts a young child, her arms raised above her head in an inscrutable gesture, while his portrait entitled Natalia evokes a sense of pensiveness, if not stoicism, through its gentle, yet purposeful, brushstrokes.
