The exhibition opens June 14, 2018 and runs through June 21, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, June 14 from 6-8 pm. About the Artist
Maurizio Zafret creates photomontages that collage various aspects of the everyday into introspective portraits. A single of Zafret’s images often contains details from as many as ten separate photographs, creating a dense network of layers, textures, colors, and patterns. Incorporating images of graffiti, newspaper clippings, clocks, and ropes, the artist experiments with form, color, and composition in his pictures that capture entirely unique interior worlds.
Isolated, walking figures, and sparse trees are recurring motifs in Zafret’s photographs on plexiglass. Long, cast shadows, soaring hawks, and rippling pools of water also populate his images to create unusual, even surreal compositions that feel simultaneously familiar and dreamlike. Solemn but colorful, lonely but bursting with information, and deteriorating but dense, these works are layered to create narratives of irony, mercy, and humanity, all siphoned through a nuanced and attentive lens.
