NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Jerry Anderson in Spring Awakenings. The exhibition opens April 28, 2018 and runs through May 18, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 3 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
American artist Jerry Anderson’s harmonious paintings explore the relationship between nature, the body, and the metaphysical world. Working in predominantly acrylic on canvas, Anderson applies highly saturated, bright tones of pigment in sinuous layers rife with crisp, undulating lines. Throughout his oeuvre, the artist cleverly implements a marriage of iconography; mountains are synonymous with the arch of a woman’s back, caverns may resemble human countenances gazing curiously into an unknown void.
In works such as Red Moon (Cappadocia 15) (2017), nearly serpentine clouds comprised of pale violet, blue, and magenta paint twirl and dance among an indigo sky. Behind the clouds, a magenta moon peers inquisitively at the audience. Upon a second glance, however, the clouds emanate a sensual anthropomorphism as we begin to notice writhing, arching torsos intertwined in a symphonic rhythm. The artist elaborates: “Painting is an expression of my ongoing pursuit of discovering all that life offers…I find all of life to be vibrantly connected by a dynamic play of feminine and masculine energies. These paintings are my expression of this magic.” The artist currently resides in California.
