How many dads out there are already groaning about opening another tie or a cologne on Father’s Day Sunday? Shake it up this year and find a unique gift at auction.

In 2012, a baseball with a pristine Babe Ruth signature sold for more than $380,000. Witherell’s Mantuary Auction is featuring a multi-signed baseball, which includes the signature of George Herman Ruth (1895-1948) inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1936. The baseball comes to Witherell’s by family tradition. The consignor’s father gathered the signatures for this baseball while attending American’s pastime games as a child in the 1920’s. The ball comes with a certificate of authenticity that showcases the New York Yankees Right Fielder’s signature in addition to Lefty O'Doul, Charlie Gehringer, Lefty Grove, Dutch Henry and others.

“The consignor’s father gathered the signatures as a child, grew up to serve in our military during WW2, and was raised in a high functioning family,” said Brian Witherell, Chief Operating Officer at Witherell’s Inc. “This baseball was definitely a family treasure and although our consignor is sad to see it go, he knows this prized possession will go to a good home.”  The signed baseball will now be offered at auction with an estimate of $2,500-5000.

Another top featured item at the Mantuary auction is a First Edition of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” published in 1876. This paperback from the 1800s is in a condition that one would expect, but with a tremendous history that would be worth $5,000-10,000. The compelling component of this item is its story, as it comes from the Nash family in Sacramento who inherited the book by direct family descent. The consignor’s uncle was Mark Twain’s attorney. This rare first edition of Tom Sawyer book is estimated at $1,000-2,500.
