Lawrence Fine Art is pleased to announce that it will open "Barbara Macklowe: Floreale" at its East Hampton Gallery on Saturday, August 22 with an opening reception from 5-8 pm. The opening will coincide with Guild Hall's "Garden as Art" tour earlier in the day which will feature Barbara's acclaimed East Hampton Garden.
Barbara Macklowe is an art photographer living in New York and East Hampton. Using her garden as inspiration for this show, she has produced double and multiple exposures which are made in camera and are then re-worked to create artistically unique, abstracted images of flowers and flora. The series is printed directly on aluminum. It will be sold as limited editions.
Macklowe's show is part of the gallery series "Summer of Abstraction," which has highlighted new and historic developments in abstraction across media.
Macklowe’s work has been in numerous solo shows. Her most recent show, "Dunes," was held at the Palm Beach Cultural Council in Spring 2014. Her images are in collections worldwide and can be found adorning many walls in the Hamptons. Barbara’s work is not limited to floral subjects. For example, her trips to India resulted in "India: In My Eyes," a book which documents her 2011 trip across India.
Macklowe and husband Lloyd own the Macklowe Gallery on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, which specializes in Art Nouveau, estate jewelry, and other antiques. Their personal collection of Art Nouveau furniture and design was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal.
Lawrence Fine Art specializes in modern and contemporary art, with a particular focus on abstract expressionism, contemporary photography, graffiti and pop art.
