Beverly Hills, California - January 6, 2017 - Carlyle Galleries International, Inc., (www.carlyle-auctions.com) the online fine art dealers and auctioneers, is hosting their next auction: “500 Years of Art: Old Masters to Contemporary” on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 10:00AM Pacific Time.

Carlyle's latest online auction offers a curated selection of nearly 150 lots of fresh-to-the-market paintings, sculpture, and works on paper. As always, Carlyle’s auction features an eclectic mix of fine art, including: European, American, Russian, Asian, Latin and Middle Eastern, 19th century, modernist, and Old Master paintings and drawings. Estimates range between $100 and $40,000, offering an opportunity for collectors at all price points.

Auction Highlights include:

Gene Davis "Black Red Orange”, 1958

This historically important work, painted in 1958 (simultaneously with Frank Stella’s striped painting series) marked the dawn of Minimalism and Post-painterly Abstraction. Gene Davis was a central member of the Washington Color School and Minimalism movements in the 1950’s and 60’s. This painting is one of Gene Davis’ earliest vertical stripe painting series, which he started in 1958. Estimate: $25,000-35,000

Takashi Murakami

The auction features six different multiples by acclaimed Japanese Pop artist Takashi Murakami, including the popular “Flowerball” series. Starting Bids: $900

George Condo

Two early 1980’s figure drawings by George Condo are up for bidding with start prices at $14,000.

Arman

The auction features two important sculptures/multiples by Arman: “Hommage a Yves Klein” (Pink Violin) and a rare large bronze sculpture “Amphitrite with propellors”. Starting prices of $13,000 and $9,000 respectively.

Jim Dine

A Jim Dine “Heart” painting in mixed media on paper is offered with a starting bid of $20,000. Also up for bidding, is “Carrot” a 1985 watercolor and gouache on paper with a starting bid of $20,00

Lot 1M: Artist: Arman (1928-2005) Title: Untitled (Amphitrite with propellors) Medium: Cast bronze Size: 42 x 24 x 16in Date: 1990 Notes: incised signature and numbered I/IV on the base (a proof aside from the edition of 8). ESTIMATE: $9,000-12,000

Andy Warhol

Up for bidding is a rare original drawing by Andy Warhol used as the basis for the “Gems” series, with an estimate of $25,000-35,000.  What makes this piece particularly special, is that it is one of the few available artworks done completely by the artists hand (unlike Warhol’s canvases produced primarily by “Factory” assistants), and showcases Warhol’s notable draughtsmanship talents which first brought him fame in the 1950’s. Notably, Warhol’s drawings are considered one of the most undervalued part of his market, and represent a great opportunity for collectors.

Also offered is Warhol’s “Dracula” screenprint from the “Myths” series with a starting bid of $15,000.

International Art:

Carlyle’s January 15 auction features an eclectic selection of artwork by European Impressionist & Modern painters 1800s-1960’s, as well as important Middle Eastern, Asian, and Latin artists.

Old Master Paintings:

As always Carlyle is offering a wide selection of Old Master paintings and drawings including early Renaissance Italian, Flemish, Dutch, Northern European, and British paintings from 1500’s. Most lots in the Old Masters category are in the $3,000-5,000 range, making them highly accessible to collectors of all budgets, and presenting an exceptional value.

The auction is online-only, and  The full auction catalog is available at www.carlyle-auctions.com Bidding is available through: LiveAuctioneers.com and BidSquare.com

Carlyle is now accepting consignments for the February 16, 2017 auction.
