About the Artist
A photographer and painter, Martin Randall Joyce explores the intersection of texture and color in urban landscapes and domestic interiors. Working primarily with a Fujifilm X100T, he seeks out and discovers unexpected compositions in everyday objects. Recombination is a recurrent theme in his works. Images are often playfully broken and recomposed from the fragments. Drawings and collage push successive iterations to increasing levels of abstraction, typically resulting in acrylic paintings that present a vision of the world, filtered through the process of creating and repeatedly re-creating the image until it reaches its final form. In one series of paintings, Joyce presents images composed like a "15 puzzle," whimsically calling the viewers to attention, and forcing them to “solve” the discontinuous portraits. His tendency to manipulate form extends to other works as well, where he comments on framing conventions or the forgotten corners of the world with broad brushstrokes and bright colors.
Martin Randall Joyce lives and works in New York City. He pulls inspiration from the balance between abstraction and representation in Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse, as well as the persistent inventiveness of Paul Klee and Andy Warhol.

About the Exhibition
Metamorphosis
Featuring eighteen artists, Metamorphosis is an exhibition of contrast and change. The works on view present diverse and opposing perspectives on time, place, and the human condition, calling into question the arbitrary nature of boundaries. Through dynamic juxtapositions, the exhibition conjures feelings of harmony and mutual transformation despite the presence of difference.
