You are invited to enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at an art movement that has been spreading across the nation like wildfire. In this just-released video, the viewer is invited to experience Erin Hanson’s Open Impressionism through behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and a special adventure into the California coast with the San Diego-based artist.

Hanson says, “I think it’s important that there be a contemporary art style that’s about beauty… I look at a landscape almost like a multi-faceted jewel that I’m trying to capture.”

This video discusses Hanson’s popular style, aptly titled “Open Impressionism”, and shares insight into Hanson’s ambitious take on natural landscapes.

Open Impressionism has been picked up by students internationally, inspiring painters to create incredible landscapes with this modern, impressionist method. In the video, Hanson shares her joy at this aspect of her work. She says, "Art is a very valuable venue to change the future. Painters can create and mock up a future for us and say, ‘Here’s a picture, here’s the way I see the future.’ Even if it’s something as simple as preserving our national parks.”

So much of “Open Impressionism” may be summed up in Hanson’s final statement of the video: “Your eye sees so much more of a landscape—you see the full panoramic of the scene, so that’s what I’m trying to capture in my painting. I feel like I’m pulling the viewer into my world.”

A life-long painter, Hanson began her study of oils as a young child. Her passion for natural beauty can be seen in her work as she transforms both familiar and rare vistas into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms, and raw emotional impact. Her frequent forays into national parks and other recesses of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris. Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, with hundreds of collectors eagerly anticipating her work. As an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, Hanson is quickly being recognized as a prolific modern master.
