NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Diego Velez in A Rich Spring Profusion. The exhibition opens April 18 and runs through May 8, 2019 with an opening reception on Thursday, April 18 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Colombian artist Diego Velez reimagines traditional portraiture with his colorful figures. His bold use of strong colors and lines help to create a range of unique characters that transport the viewer to his world. Diego's work speaks to his cultural influence growing up in Colombia, and the strong role that Picasso has played as an inspiration to his painting.

In one of Diego's more prominent pieces Reunion, he blends features and facial expressions together to create a staggering image that ensnares the senses. This fragmented vision of identity raises new questions about interpersonal relationships. Searching for a recognizable face, the viewer can never be sure where one person ends and another begins.

Although Diego's work has moved from explorations of the universe to the people who have impacted its history, he continues to portray timeless, universal themes. Some works focus on the impact that humanity's footprint continues to leave on the environment as well as the natural shifts that shape it, while other works are stories of human relationships.
