Mitochondria Gallery is pleased to present “Latitude of Expression,” a group exhibition featuring ten emerging visual artists from East to West Africa, telling stories from their various perspectives. Latitude of Expression presents viewers a glimpse into the visual language of emerging art hubs across the continent such as Douala, Kigali, Ibadan, and Nairobi.
The works in the exhibition explore landscape and portraiture in the form of drawings and paintings. Mediums such as acrylic, oil, charcoal, and ink are implemented to create beautiful images on canvas and paper. This exhibition features new works from Manzi Leon, Junior Mudahunga, Isaac Manirumva, Alpha Odh, Kingsley Tamfou, Olaniyi Omotayo, Franklin Ndibam, Emeka Okoye, Victoria Oniosun, and Kolawole Adewale.
Employing styles in the form of realism with elements of abstraction through their work, these artists capture nostalgic and inspirational elements of their environment in a period where aspects of the world are changing at an accelerated rate. The depiction of everyday life, celebration of individuality, community, shared history, and the impacts of globalization are concepts explored in the exhibition. Latitude of Expression is an ode to the beautiful synergy that is created through diversity.
