Purgatory 2011 82" x 54" oil and mixed media on wood

Los Angeles artist, Laurie Katz Yehia celebrates the opening of her exhibition on Saturday, September 10, by sitting down with renowned painter Tom Wudl and letting us share their conversation. They will discuss issues of creativity, process and content, in the context of Ms. Yehia’s recent work and Mr. Wudl’s distinguished career.

The exhibition, which continues through Monday, September 12, engages with themes of growth and transformation. In a richly textured series inspired by Dante’s The Divine Comedy, Ms. Yehia sees Dante’s struggles through the terraces of Mount Purgatory toward God, as mirrored by contemporary journeys toward personal discovery and self-determination. A further collection of paintings on linen similarly re-contextualizes ancient source materials, including the Radiance Sutras and the Song of Solomon.

The exhibition uses multiple spaces in the Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club, at 1210 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, and is open to the public from 10:00am - 4:00pm from Saturday, September 10 through Monday, September 12. Admission to the exhibition and the opening event is free.
