A spread of paintings in a meditative medley surrounds the new body of Tokyo International Art Fair with works by Celia Rung. Inundated with visual metaphors, her artwork appears in a tactile interplay of spaces and ornamental forms.
Those looking for something exciting yet meditative should not miss the work of Celia Rung at Tokyo International Art Fair. The city of Tokyo is playing host to hundreds of talented artists from all around the world when it stages the first Tokyo International Art Fair from 22nd to 23rd May 2015. More than 150 artists from over 30 countries are filling the prime located Quest Hall – Harajuku with a showcase of modern and contemporary art.
Do you really know who you are? Can anyone? With these subjects and antagonism Celia Rung is working, combining her experience in criminal law and analytical approach to semi abstract paintings. The artist who is living and working in Switzerland, is delighted to be selected for the show in Tokyo.
To understand the artist’s intention Celia Rung explains, "painting today is senseless, uneconomical and an absurd waste of time. That's why it is so extremely important to people today. I am inspired by Hieronymus Bosch, the invisible behind surface and the subconscious antagonisms of human nature. I am more interested in the human existence as a focal point for its environment than in the representation of human appearance.“
The emerging young artist is a Bachelor of Arts Painting student at Open College of the Arts, Barnsley, UK and has showcased her work at The Brick Lane Gallery, London in the group show “Art in Mind” (April 2015). Her work has been featured in Saatchi’s Guest Curators Collection (March 2015) and Saatchi’s Art Selects Collection (November 2014).
Despite some committment to a systematic approach Celia Rung’s works reflect a symbiosis between formal abstraction and sensory imagery, moving between reality and illusion. It is excactly the flowing element, the circle line evoking movement, rhythm, spirit and vitality when forms emerge as uneven circles and ellipses and spacial effects arise by arrangement in layers.
Celia Rung’s concept is focused on the importance of mind, body, unity and purity. While viewing these pieces, the mind remains in the now, being fully aware of the illusory nature of material life. Please, sit down, stop your analytic intellect, open your eyes. So, what is your identity?
