About the Artist
The work of South Korean artist YoungHee Woo is based on the concepts of life and death and how one exists as an extension of the other. Her paintings, brightly colored with an air of fantasy and whimsy, depict themes of generation and extinction, and how during our lifetime we engage in organic relationships with creations of nature. Inspired by ideas of atrophy and evolution, she also paints mysterious beings, as seen in “The Irresistible” and “Fatal Fool”. Woo hopes to inspire her audience to live fiercely and passionately through her work, to face the afterlife with grandness rather than fear, and enjoy the futility of disappearing things.
Woo has had seven solo exhibitions in South Korea and participated in many group exhibitions too. She graduated from Busan National University’s School of Fine Arts Education with a major in Western painting.
