NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Linda Harding in Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. The exhibition opens April 28, 2018 and runs through May 18, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 3 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
The photographic methods used by Linda Harding juxtapose anthropomorphic forms against hauntingly desolate landscapes. Influenced by the avant-garde provocations of the Surrealists as much as by the soft palette of Edgar Degas, Harding’s photos are touched by charms normally reserved for works of magical realism. Intrinsic to her technique is making the photographs she captures look less like photographs and more like hand-drawn works of art. In this way, her subjects take on a dream-like quality that makes viewers feel as though they’re peering into a mythological world.
In Harding’s Reaching an isolate forest seems to be reaching towards an ever-expanding fog. In the sense of purposive, almost desirous animation each tree possess, viewers can observe how Harding continues perceivable aspects of her originally photographed subjects, varying their structural details ever so slightly to give her images a foreboding character. Ultimately, Harding’s Reaching feels almost cinematic, like a still-frame that suggests a greater narrative in the way details are either exaggerated or underscored.
