At the Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt
The Ann Korologos Gallery will open Works on Paper on Thursday, September 12 with a reception from 5pm to 7pm. Refreshments will be served.
Works on Paper will feature watercolors by Dean Mitchell, pastels by Elizabeth Sandia and Dinah Worman, acrylics and oils on paper by Dan Namingha, three-dimensional paper constructions by Janet Nelson, prints and lithographs by Joel Ostlind, drawings by Andy Taylor and photographs by Katherine Rabinow.
“We are extremely proud of the extraordinary talent represented by the Ann Korologos Gallery and this exhibition is a great way to showcase the diverse approaches to creating on paper,” explained Julia Novy, gallery director. “Whether applying watercolor or pastel, or inking a copper plate, our artists know how to use paper to its greatest effect.”
From its roots in ancient papyrus, paper has been the support of choice for artists for centuries. Artists and collectors have long been enamoured by the special properties of paper that produce amazing results, depending on the texture, color and absorbency of the paper and how it interacts with the medium being applied.
Works on Paper will include for the first time the art of Dean Mitchell, a nationally known and widely collected watercolorist from Florida. Mitchell has garnered much attention and many awards for his sensitive watercolors. His series of barns evokes many of the feelings associated with ranching and the effects of weather.
