BOSTON, MA – Boston-based artist Mark Davis announces his participation in AD20/21: Art & Design of the 20th & 21st Centuries, taking place March 21-24, 2013 at the Cyclorama, Boston Center for the Arts. For his second year at the show, Davis will showcase a series of exciting new pieces, including hanging, wall-mounted and freestanding mobiles. The artist will also present a booth talk on Sunday, March 24 at 3:00pm that focuses on the creation of his sculptural mobiles. Mark Davis is represented in Boston by Pucker Gallery, located on Newbury Street. For additional information on Mark Davis and his work, please visit www.MarkDavisMobiles.com.
Highlighting Mark Davis’ offerings at the 2012 show was an impressive hanging mobile titled “Evening Majesty.” The piece, which was selected to appear on the AD20/21 program cover, features abstract forms in deep blue and green hung above a series of smaller circular pieces in gold leaf. Its striking presence drew many in to the artist’s exhibition booth, which also included works that varied broadly in subject, size and color. The artist plans to showcase a number of new pieces at the 2013 show, including a wide variety of works that can be hung, mounted or displayed on tabletops.
Among Davis’ inspirations are artists Henri Matisse, Isamu, Noguchi, Joan Miro and Alexander Calder, who he credits as a personal favorite. Most recently, he completed a large-scale installation titled “Healing Waters” commissioned by the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. At nearly 70 feet in length, it is his largest installation to date, and incorporates hundreds of synchronized LED lights to create virtual waves of light that flow across the piece. The commission has broadened awareness of Davis’ work, much of which is now available to view online at his newly redesigned website www.MarkDavisMobiles.com.
AD20/21 opens Thursday, March 21, with a Gala Preview from 5:30-8:30pm to benefit Boston Architectural College (BAC). The weekend show and sale continues Friday, March 22 from 1-8pm, Saturday, March 23 from 11am-8pm, and Sunday March 24 from 11am-5pm. Weekend admission is $15 (under 12 free) and includes all special programs, lectures and panel discussions at the fair. In addition to traditional programs, Davis and other exhibitors will present a series of booth talks on their respective areas of expertise. Valet and discount parking is available, and the show café is catered by Jules Catering. For show information, please visit www.AD2021.com.
“AD20/21 gives me the chance not only to reconnect with past clients, but also to introduce my work to an entirely new audience,” comments Davis. “Whether someone is interested in an existing piece or curious about commissioning a custom piece, it’s always a pleasure and a privilege to make new connections.”
