New York, January 24, 2022 – UBS today announced the UBS Art Gallery will reopen on January 27, 2022 with a new exhibition, Reimagining: New Perspectives, featuring recently acquired artwork from the UBS Art Collection. The exhibition highlights work by internationally respected contemporary artists and showcases a compelling mix of artistic backgrounds, styles, and personal experiences that collectively invites viewers to reimagine the world and expand their perspectives. Concieved as a hybrid exhibition, both in-person and virtual, Reimagining: New Perspectives is on view at 1285 Avenue of the Americas in New York City and online until May 30, 2022.

“We are thrilled to make our collection accessible to the public once again,” said Mary Rozell, Global Head of the UBS Art Collection. “It is incredibly rewarding to share with our community—both near and far—our recent acquisitions by leading artists of our time. These artists approach their subjects in unconventional ways to lead conversations on social and cultural change. We hope to nurture this exploration by supporting artists who shed light on new approaches and solutions to some of the most pressing challenges we face.”

Reimagining: New Perspectives showcases themes present in the collection, such as identity, memory, culture and social change. Artists including Latifa Echakhch, Theaster Gates, Jeffrey Gibson, Lauren Halsey, Kyungah Ham, Adam Pendleton, and Stanley Whitney, express these themes through geometric abstraction, the visual language of text and graffiti, and the use of unconventional materials. At the same time, they explore current and historical narratives and depict figures from underrepresented communities.

Derrick Adams and Amy Sherald reconsider representation through figurative painting. Hugo McCloud and Theaster Gates, make use of found materials to address socio-economic issues. Do Ho Suh and Wu Chi-Tsing, respectively, reference their domestic and natural environments to explore the passage of time, while Farah Al Qasimi, Sanford Biggers, and Kyungah Ham use traditional art forms in unexpected ways to address themes of ideological, geographical and cultural boundaries.

The UBS Art Gallery, which opened in 2019, features temporary exhibitions to continually showcase the UBS Art Collection’s extensive holdings of contemporary art. The gallery also includes permanent installations by iconic artists such as Sarah Morris, Frank Stella, Fred Eversley, and Howard Hodgkin.

The UBS Art Collection is considered one of the largest and most important corporate collections of contemporary art in the world with more than 30,000 works. UBS has been collecting contemporary art since the 1960s, a practice driven by the company's long-held belief that art provides inspiration, while encouraging the innovative thinking that has shaped UBS's corporate culture.
