NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Carol Carpenter in Autumn Equinox: Collective Visions in Abstraction and Figuration The exhibition opens September 21 and runs through October 11, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 27 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Using experimental processes and a saturated palette, Carol Carpenter creates vivid works of organic abstract art. Though often painting traditional-feeling compositions like landscapes and still lifes, Carpenter's Belle Époque style and her floral elaborations lend her work a unique abstract quality. While her paintings often tackle familiar subject matter, Carpenter's use of unusually rich colors sets her depictions apart, approaching not only Modern art movements, but also referencing the fantastic qualities of Romantic landscape painters like J.M.W. Turner.

Carpenter's distinctive approach, which involves establishing an abstract layer of paint beneath the final painting, is noteworthy for the organic qualities it imparts upon her paintings. In the process of elaborating on the natural images from the paint splatters, Carpenter creates new perspectives on natural beauty, drawing not just from her own perspectives, but on nature's physical processes and the collusion of chance and technological innovation. These blurred lines in Carpenter's work, whether physical or metaphorical, result in particularly sensual paintings, with textures, brushstrokes, and colors flowing together in fantastic and dreamlike ways.
