Often portraying families, men and women, young and old, living in difficult environmental conditions in India, the photographs of Alina Fedorenko disclose a beautiful world of labyrinths and narrow alleys.

What distinguishes Fedorenko’s portraits from those of others who work in and around the mode of documentary realism is the way she allows a lavish coloration to emerge from her chosen settings and subject-matter. Using portraiture as her primary vehicle, she capture the intimacy of everyday life in photographs that frame the importance of familial and communal values.

Through expressive portraits, still lifes, and conceptual works, the exhibition conveys a unique perspective on the tradition of photography and how the medium conveys ideas, creates fictions, or captures attitudes.
