Artur Golacki: Primal Scenes
- NYC, New York
- /
- January 27, 2018
Art Golacki’s photographs, installations, and assemblages question the perception of reality and the limits of imagination and intuition. The artist aims to reposition common subjects or environments, evoking a reflective state of contemplation in which habits of labeling and patterning degrade.
In Golacki’s enigmatic still lifes, man-made and organic objects are covered in black paint and arranged to mimic a classical memento mori. The process renders many objects unidentifiable, and thus visually equal, creating a primal, intuitive scene devoid of arbitrary learned judgments and categorical labels.
