NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Claudio Stefanoni in Opening the Window. The exhibition opens March 26 and runs through April 16, 2019 with an opening reception on Thursday, March 28 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Claudio Stefanoni’s artworks lucidly depict dreams. Influenced by Pollock and his gestural brushwork as well as Rothko's eye for astonishing color combinations, Stefanoni feels more in tune with American Expressionism painting than the traditions of photography proper. The way his works present themselves is just as important as their content; form rests on an equal footing with subject matter. In terms of subject matter, however, Stefanoni tackles themes as fate, fatality, and chance.

While photography is only a part of Stefanoni’s practice, he does aspire to bring photography into conversation with other artistic mediums, sidestepping the typical expectations (such as hyper-realism) that most people attribute to photographic works. Kosmos 2.45 is typical of Stefanoni’s output in this respect. Building the image into a circular shape, the nebulous energy captured in the piece takes on the appearance of a cosmos. The work could also be interpreted as resembling an eye, gazing back at the viewer who gazes into it. Similar to the experience of meditative immersion, Kosmos 2.45 becomes a contemplative environment: viewers can approach the work without knowing it’s a printed reproduction.
