NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Jutta Schulte in Life is But a Dream. The exhibition opens May 22, 2018 and runs through June 12,  2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 24 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

German artist Jutta Schulte’s acrylic paintings on canvas vary widely in subject matter and technique. Landscapes, animals, domestic scenes, and sporting events are all captured with careful attention to light and color. The artist renders snapshot like scenes with quick strokes of bright, imaginatively colored paint, and her compositions are often abstracted by bursts of vibrant, turquoise pigment. In each work, the artist completes only the primary area of focus or protagonist, leaving the remainder of the composition to disintegrate into abstraction.

In her painting titled Dubai, Schulte images a costal cityscape, juxtaposing the ultramodern architecture of the city with the function and form of a sailboat. Meanwhile, Wolfsblut depicts a large, muscular, mangy looking dog that appears to be part domestic companion and part wild animal. Finally, Schulte’s Chillen is a glimpse of an everyday scene inside a cafe or restaurant, almost as if seen through a window by a passerby. The painterly work, layered with stenciled numbers and shapes, is linear and spare; a waitress and patron are only separated by loose, gestural brushwork.

About the Exhibition

Life is But a Dream is a group show that explores the surreality of memory and identity in a world too often constructed to resemble a mere product on the shelf of popular culture. Comprising 17 artists, the primary link joining them together is how memory can be reshaped by the imagination. These artists all share in examining the content of what they remember, with social and familial life acting as a lens through which they reexamine recollected moments.
