Gallery One, a cooperative of mid-career artists working in a wide variety of media and styles from representational to abstract, including painting, sculpture and works on paper, will exhibit at the Guilford Art Center’s Mill Gallery, from April 24 through May 9, with an opening reception on Friday, April 24 from 5pm to 7pm. A closing reception and artists talks will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 2pm to 4pm.
“The Guilford Art Center’s Mill Gallery affords us the opportunity to invite other artists to exhibit with us. This year we are pleased to present the expressive modernist landscapes and still lifes of Helen Cantrell of Old Lyme; and Elizabeth Lockhart Taft’s plein air oil paintings of Martha’s Vineyard island scenes where she resides,” says Judith Barbour Osborne, director of Gallery One. "Gallery One's hangings provide a dialog between representational and abstract work through connections and contrasts.”
Gallery One’s eleven artists include David Brown, Old Saybrook; Ashby Carlisle, Old Lyme; Catherine Christiano, Old Lyme; Bette Ellsworth, Madison; Mary Fussell, Clinton; Gray Jacobik, Deep River; Judith Barbour Osborne, Ivoryton; T. Willie Raney, Ivoryton; Diana Rogers, Clinton; Victoria Sivigny, Meriden; and Jill Vaughn, Ivoryton. The two Guest Artists participating are Helen Cantrell, Old Lyme, and Elizabeth Lockhart Taft, Vineyard Haven, MA.
The opening reception is free and concurrent with Guilford Art Center's "Friday Night in the Gallery" event which is also open to the public. To take a one-night workshop in the school, visitors are asked to preregister ($35 for non-members, $31.50 for members).
David Brown, Helen Cantrell, Judith Barbour Osborne, T. Willie Raney and Elizabeth Lockhart Taft will speak at the closing reception on Saturday, May 9. Light refreshments will be served.
