About the Artist

Bo Song’s vibrant paintings seamlessly highlight the beauty and complexity of the world she is surrounded by. Working in predominantly oil on canvas, the artist lays her canvases with autographic impasto and resounding color schemes that illustrate his internal intuition. As a practicing Buddhist, Song is inspired by the concept of mandala, or "a circular wheel full of the essence of the universe." Song both utilizes landscape painting and abstraction in various ways that demonstrate her connection with spiritual themes that at once connect both our present and future.

In works such as Blue River (2017), undulating, turquoise mountains stand still against at sky blue background. Below the mountains, thick strokes of orange, green, and crimson compose a grassy plain that surrounds a royal blue pond in the foreground of the composition. Song is unapologetic in her application of paint, as the viewer’s eye wanders throughout the canvas, carefully observing the layers of paint she so audaciously applies. Yet, there is uniformity and a sense of serenity amidst her painterly chaos. Song flawlessly blends complexity of color and harmonious compositional elements that allow the beauty of her world to be expressed on her own terms.
