Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) with the Russian Academy of Arts announced Academia, an exhibition of historical and contemporary works from students of both schools. Academia will be on exhibit from October 8th through November 19th, Monday thru Saturday at LCAD’s Main Campus, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, California 92651.

The public is welcome to view the exhibition as well as to attend the opening reception with Russian curator and art collector, Ahkemd Salakhly, who will discuss and compare the similarities and differences of these two great schools of drawing and painting. The reception will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 20th in the Main Campus Conference Room.

"I am excited to see this powerful, collaborative exhibition of LCAD and Russian Academy of Arts Drawings," said Jonathan Burke, president of LCAD. "We are honored to bring rare historical works by artists such as Eric Rebane and Osokin, as well as fresh new works by contemporary students at both academies, and to host this important collection."

"This exhibition will allow art collectors and scholars to study and compare drawing style and subjects by historically important artists as well as by current students at both schools," said Vanessa Rothe, artist editor and co-curator. "It is very a powerful statement to connect two vast continents in the fine art of drawing."

Academia was curated by Hope Railey, foundations coordinator at LCAD; Vanessa Rothe; and Akhmed Salakhly, curator of the Repin Art Collection.

Selected works will be available for purchase. For more information about Academia, please visit www.lcad.edu or call 949-376-6000.
